El Roby Mosque Ali Al-Ruby in Fayoum

We will explore together the Mausoleum of Ali Al-Ruby in Fayoum city. The mausoleum is located in an old district in Fayoum city. It was built in the reign of Sultan Barqouq at the end of the Thirteenth century AD and contains the shrine of Sheikh Ali al-Ruby. The dome is built in mud bricks while the minaret follows the same architectural style of the minarets of al-Azhar mosque.

This Mausoleum is attributed to Fayoum’s favourite Sheikh, Ali Ruby who was one of the descendants of Prophet Muhammed’s uncle El-Abbass.  the Mausoleum was built in 793 AH  during the reign of Sultan Barquq as it is engraved on the wooden board inside the dome.

The mausoleum was restored in the nineteenth century AD by the Prince Hussein. People of the Fayoum celebrate the annual birthday festival of the Sheikh in the middle of Sha’ban. It’s one of the most important Mulids in Middle Egypt.
